From Audit to Sign-Off

The Process Step by Step

Every driveway reinstatement follows the same auditable sequence. Here is exactly what happens at each stage.

1

Pre-Excavation Paving Audit

Before the first spade hits the ground, our reinstatement crew carries out a full pre-excavation paving audit. We photograph the existing driveway from multiple angles, identify the manufacturer and range where possible (Marshalls Drivesett Tegula, Brett Omega, Tobermore Tegula, and the rest), note the exact laying pattern (herringbone, stretcher bond, basket weave, mixed-size modular), record any colour blends, and measure existing levels and falls. A physical block sample is retained for supplier matching. This up-front audit is the single biggest factor in whether the finished reinstatement is invisible or obvious, so we do not skip it, and we do not rush it.

2

Matched-Material Sourcing

With the audit complete, we send the retained sample to the manufacturer or an approved distributor to confirm the exact product code and blend. Where the range is still in production, we order matched blocks direct so the finish is indistinguishable from the surrounding driveway. Where the range has been discontinued, we present the closest available match alongside the original for client sign-off in writing before any order is placed. For pattern-imprinted concrete and resin-bound surfaces, we work with the original installer where traceable, or colour-match in-house using the same aggregate blend and topcoat system.

3

Excavation, Lift, and Reinstatement to BS 7533

During the connection excavation, existing blocks are lifted carefully by hand, stacked on boards, and protected for reuse wherever possible, which minimises waste and gives a better colour match than all-new material. Once the utility pipe or cable is in and tested, we reinstate to BS 7533: Type 1 MOT granular sub-base compacted in 75mm layers to a total depth of 150mm, a 30-50mm sharp sand laying course screeded true, blocks re-laid to the original pattern working from the retained edge back towards new, and kiln-dried jointing sand brushed and vibrated into every joint. Mortar-bedded slabs, resin, and tarmac follow their own BS-compliant build-ups.

4

Snag, Sign-Off, and Guarantee Paperwork

Before we leave site, the reinstatement is snagged against a written checklist. Joint widths are checked for consistency, the finished surface is swept and vibrated a final time to lock joint sand, levels and falls are verified against the pre-excavation levels (1:60 minimum fall away from the property to avoid ponding), and a full photographic record is captured and added to your project file. The client then walks the driveway with our crew supervisor for sign-off. A 2-year written guarantee is issued on the spot, covering settlement, joint failure, and material defects, with our direct office number for any post-handover concerns.

Why Choose USP

What USP Can Do For You

End-to-end capability from a single NRSWA-qualified reinstatement provider.

Manufacturer-matched sourcing policy. We order blocks direct from Marshalls, Brett, Tobermore and others rather than settling for a "nearest available" lookalike.
In-house paving crews with City & Guilds qualifications and manufacturer accreditations. We do not subcontract reinstatement to a third-party groundworker.
Full photographic record before, during, and after every job, added to your project file alongside the connection documentation. See our block paving specialism at /utility-services/utility-reinstatement/block-paving-reinstatement for the detail on driveway block matching.
Blocks lifted carefully by hand for reuse wherever possible. This minimises waste, delivers a better colour match than all-new material, and keeps cost down.
2-year written guarantee issued at sign-off, honoured on site at no cost if anything fails. Part of our wider utility reinstatement offer at /utility-services/utility-reinstatement.

Driveway Reinstatement FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

In most cases, yes. We photograph the paving before excavation, identify the manufacturer and range (Marshalls, Brett, Tobermore, Tegula and the rest), and order matched blocks direct from the supplier wherever the product is still in production. Where a range has been discontinued, we show you the closest available match and get your sign-off in writing before we order any material.
A typical single-service excavation on a domestic driveway is reinstated within 1 to 2 working days once matched materials are on site. Larger areas, pattern-imprinted concrete, or resin-bound surfaces may take 3 to 5 days to allow for curing and weather windows. We always quote a firm programme up front and hit it.
If the manufacturer has discontinued your exact block, we source the closest available match from the same or a comparable range and present physical samples for your approval before ordering. Where matching is not possible at all, we offer a full-driveway relay option so the finish is uniform rather than patchy. No work proceeds until you have signed off the chosen approach in writing.
Yes. Every USP gas, electricity, or water connection quote includes driveway reinstatement as a clearly itemised line. You will see the surface type, area, and materials specified up front, so there are no surprise reinstatement costs after the connection is live. If you would prefer to use your own landscaper, we can quote excavation-only and leave the trench backfilled to sub-base level.
Yes. Correct sub-base is essential for a lasting finish. We install Type 1 MOT granular sub-base compacted in layers to 150mm for driveways, followed by a 30-50mm sharp sand laying course for block paving or an appropriate mortar bed for slabs. Compaction is checked at each layer so the finished surface will not settle or rut under vehicle loading.
All USP driveway reinstatement carries a 2-year written warranty covering settlement, joint failure, and material defects. If anything fails within that period we return to site and put it right at no cost to you. The guarantee is issued in writing at sign-off and is transferable to subsequent property owners within the warranty window.
