The Goal

To provide a modern, efficient EV charging solution for employees, customers, and guests, delivering 10 active bays with 22kW AC chargers to support sustainable travel and enhance the hotel’s amenities.


The Solution

The solution was to get USP to deliver the full EV charger installation at the Crowne Plaza, East Midlands Airport, Kegworth Yew Lodge, installing Autel Maxi Charger AC Ultra units capable of delivering up to 22kW AC power, complete with smart charging functionality and multiple payment options.

  • Site Preparation: Notifying the DNO of the new installation, and ensuring all health and safety requirements are met
  • Civil Works: Excavating an 80m route for cable installation, laying 150mm and 63mm ducting, forming concrete pads for charger pedestals, and reinstating all excavations
  • Electrical Installation: Pulling 35mm 5-core SWA and CAT 5E cables from the mains room to the feeder pillar and chargers and installing a 7-way 100A TPN Proteus panel with comms equipment
  • Testing and Commissioning: Conducting full testing, labelling, and commissioning of chargers in compliance with BS7671:2019 standards
  • Final Steps: Ensuring the site is clean and tidy, and liaising with the client to confirm satisfaction with the installation

The RESULTS

The project was successfully completed in a single visit, achieving the installation of 10 active EV charging bays equipped, all carried out efficiently and to a high standard.

  • Pre-Construction Planning: Coordinated access, traffic management, to ensure a smooth installation with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Testing & Handover: All units were tested, labelled, and complied with BS7671:2019 standards and handed over ready for use.
  • Efficient Installation: The team installed 10 bays with 22kW chargers in a single visit, completing civil and electrical works efficiently.
